SUMMER

FAMILY GAME NIGHT // NOWHERE ELSE

Hi everyone, I’ve been laying pretty low since tour wrapped up, just regrouping and cooking up the next moves. Fun things in the works, but for now I’ll keep this one as brief and to-the-point as possible for your summer skimming:

FAMILY GAME NIGHT // Summer is for a lot of things, but it’s generally not for club dates, except in special cases - of which we have one this week!

Since 2013, I’ve been an on-and-off participant in a project with some fellow songwriters called the Song Game. Each week we get a prompt, then everyone writes a song to it and sends it in to the group. Rinse and repeat! Over the years this practice has been incredibly useful to me as a writer, helping me stay curious and limber, leading me places I would never have gone otherwise. I've written a lot of bad songs for it, but some good ones too, many of which have eventually ended up on records. And the community of fellow writers is a beautiful pillar of existential support too.

This week, our fearless leader Matt the Electrician is coming through New England on tour, and folks from the game are joining him for a few shows called “Family Game Night.” I’ll be joining Matt plus Erin McKeown and Natalia Zukerman at Club Passim in Cambridge MA on Wednesday July 9 (um, aka “tonight”) and at The Word Barn in Exeter NH on Thursday July 10. We’ll all be on stage together, talking about the game and playing songs we’ve written for it along the way. Really looking forward to this little family reunion, come nerd out with us.

NOWHERE ELSE FEST // For the last bunch of years, the band Over the Rhine has hosted this sweet festival on their property in rural Ohio. I’ve heard such great things about Nowhere Else Festival and I’m absolutely thrilled to be on the lineup this year with many incredible artists: Amy Helm, Jeffrey Martin, John Paul White, Joy Clark, Peter Mulvey, and more. Probably time to start planning your Labor Day road trip to Ohio…

In other news, a couple tour-merch items are now up on the webstore. Our “Wolves” poster, designed by Mark Brabant - half size (12”x18”) posters, hand silkscreened in Ohio on 100% post-consumer recycled chipboard which has a great texture to it. And the bandanas are a pattern of botanicals (garden!) and moths (ghosts!), designed by Anna Jane Lester. Hand-silkscreened in California on cotton woven & sewn in Japan. They’re a lighter weight than your average brand-new bandana, especially the black version. You can find these treasures on the website and Bandcamp!

It’s hard to find a carefree summer mindset with everything going on in the world right now, but I hope you’re all communing with weather and vegetables in satisfying ways, and getting into friendly bodies of water from time to time, and have some good music in your ears. *kd
